Carotid Ultrasound

A carotid ultrasound is a procedure that uses sound waves to observe the blood flow through the two carotid arteries on each side of the neck. The ultrasound will show if the arteries are narrowed or blocked and give the doctor a way to determine treatment.

WHY IT’S DONE

Carotid ultrasounds will be recommended to evaluate blood flow, stent placement, blood clots, and detect abnormalities of the artery. Early diagnosis is essential to help reduce a patients risk of stroke when a carotid artery is in jeopardy. An ultrasound is the best way to ascertain a proper diagnosis.
